Interview with PGX, Inc.
Any views or opinions represented or expressed in this interview belong solely to the interviewee and do not necessarily represent those of the PGConf.EU 2023 organization, PostgreSQL Europe, or the wider PostgreSQL community, unless explicitly stated.
- Which of your company's contributions to the PostgreSQL Project (code/community/conference) are you most proud of?
-
PGX has been focused on community involvement from our beginning. We started with a Core Team member and a Hacker on Staff, and currently have a Major Contributor (Stacey Haysler) and a member of the Infra team (Christophe Pettus). You’ll find our employees on the staff of conferences in the US and EU, both at the registration desk and behind the scenes. Stacey is also the President of PgUS, and also works with the Diversity Committee on its goals. The PgUS social media is managed by our Executive Admin, Katharine Saar, who also fills the Membership Coordinator role. Even our Office Manager helps out with PgUS, maintaining records of PUG meetings and helping Stacey with various admin tasks.
- Why does your company attend PostgreSQL Conference Europe?
-
It’s a terrific opportunity to meet with Postgres colleagues who don’t regularly travel to America, and to attend workshops that we would otherwise miss because of the travel issue. It’s good to broaden one’s horizons, see new places and meet new people. And we get to visit some wonderful cities that we haven’t been to yet, or have been wanting to visit again!
- Which PostgreSQL extension do you benefit from most, and why?
-
pg_stat_statements. It's our first stop in finding out where the time is going in a PostgreSQL database. Best thing since sliced hosts.
